17/07/2019 Welling, Kent
It’s already been a busy summer period with plenty of great projects either completed, in progress or just around the corner and today I got to add another great photoshoot to the list of successes as I met with Emma & baby Theo for their first photoshoot together! There have been so many wonderful babies this year that I have had the privilege of photographing and Theo was no exception.
I drove to meet Emma at her house in Welling- unfortunately her husband & Theo’s dad Darren had work commitments and couldn’t join us but we wouldn’t let that dampen our newborn photoshoot. After Sparky (Emma & Darren’s Chihuahua) had checked me out and made sure I was safe to come in we had a coffee and I was introduced to Theo. Big blue eyes and a cheeky grin stared back at me from his high chair- always a better reception than a twisted face and some tears!
I set the studio up in the front room as Emma gathered some of Theo’s toys, blankets & presents he had been given since joining the world. I always prefer to use props from the home i’m in- you can’t get more personal than using a blanket from a nan, or a present from an aunt. Once I was set up we started photographing Theo but it wasn’t long before there were a few yawns and Theo duly nodded off- it seems to be a skill i’ve had with the last few babies ive photographed where I can bore them to sleep right when I need them awake!
Not to worry, its always good to get some sleepy shots as well so as Theo napped we moved him around with his cuddly toys and got some great photographs of him. Once he stirred awake it was lunch time and so Emma went off to give him a bottle & a quick wardrobe change before we continued with the shoot and this time I got Emma in front of the camera with Theo as well. Parent & baby shots are quickly becoming one of my favourite things to photograph and you can get some awesome pictures with very little direction, giving the photos a lovely natural feel.
The shoot took a little over two hours and we got some great photographs of both Emma & Theo and it was a pleasure to work with them both.
