15/06/2019 The Oak Grove, Sittingbourne, Kent
High winds and the risk of rain were never going to dampen this absolutely stunning outdoor wedding in Kent at the beautiful Oak Grove venue in Sittingbourne. A quiet and discreet setting on the shores of the Medway it proved to be the perfect location for our wonderful (and may I add super cool!) Bride & Groom.
I met Jenna & her bridesmaids as they were preparing for the day to come with hair, make up, shoes, photos, laughter & bubbles the order of the morning. Throw in a bit of filming from you and you could’ve mistaken the scene for something very similar to backstage at a Hollywood movie! Its definitely one of my favourite parts of a wedding day and scenes of bridesmaids laughing & getting ready are a great addition to any wedding film. I love to pick up the small emotions of the wedding day and there’s always some great moments in the intimate setting of a house full of ladies preparing for the big day ahead.
I left Jenna & her bride squad to finish getting ready before they jumped in the insanely cool VW camper van that Quirky Wedding Cars had provided them to get to the venue and headed off myself. The day was slightly overcast but there were some hopeful rays of sunshine creeping through the clouds, so if Lady Luck was on our side maybe it would stay dry for our outdoor wedding ceremony at The Oak Grove.
I arrived and met Aden who was super calm and relaxed which gave me some really great shots as he laughed and joked with his guests. The Oak Grove is a really cool venue with a very natural and free feel to it and is something quite unique amongst wedding venues in Kent. The scene was set, my cameras were rolling and it was time for Jenna to make that all important walk…
But not before she took one last ride in that super stylish VW van! Jenna followed her wedding party down the pathway towards Aden with her Mum & Dad in the van with her, before all three of them walked the aisle together which was a really lovely moment.
The ceremony was full of laughs and we got some great footage of the happy couple as they officially became Mr & Mrs Mackenzie! Another couple that have been married in Kent in its beautiful scenery.
Jenna & Aden had organised some truly unique aspects to their wedding that really set it apart! They led their guests on a walk along the shoreline where we had a great group shot moment. We managed to sneak the couple away as the guests were walking back to the Oak Grove so we could get some shots of the two of them alone- and boy was I glad we did! The results were spectacular! A beautiful backdrop over the Medway, the wind blowing just enough to make hair & dress flutter in the right way and of course, our super cool couple to set it all off meant that we got some truly epic shots!
We didnt keep Jenna & Aden too long before we headed back so that they could try their hand at Axe throwing. Yes you heard that right- axe throwing! The guys & girls from Joe’s Bows were fantastic as they let kids and adults alike throw axes at wooden targets and just when you thought Aden couldn’t look any more on point with that beard, you put an axe and a beer in his hand & suddenly he was all viking!
Jenna & Aden’s guests kept throwing those axes for a good few hours as it proved to be extremely popular. After they all worked up an appetite it was time to head to the tent for the speeches and the BBQ (one of the reasons why we love a summer wedding so much!). After some wonderful speeches & some incredible food served up by Black Bird Caterers it was time to mingle and hit the bar before the next surprise was unveiled…
It turns out the guys & girls from Joe’s Bows had another treat up their sleeve as they brought along a couple of birds of prey to show off to the guests- definitely not something you see at every Kentish wedding! They let the guests take it in turn to put on the leather glove and let either the Falcon or the Owl swoop onto their hand- as a film maker I was in absolute heaven! There was only one thing for it- stick the camera in super smooth slow motion and try and get as close to the birds as I could. I didn’t flinch once…
The kids got involved as well- they were given a rope with a pretend rabbit on the end of it and were told to run as fast as they could as the Falcon hunted the rabbit down. It was really great to see so many people, both young and old, enjoying these magnificent Birds of Prey.
As the rain finally arrived in the early evening we retreated to the tent for the cutting of the wedding cake- a stunning masterpiece created by Court Lodge Kitchen. Set on a backdrop of wooden crates & jars of sweets it looked incredible! Jenna & Aden went straight into their first dance from there and the lights set up by Dynamic Sounds Disco looked awesome on film as I circled the happy Bride & Groom! It was easily one of the best first dances I have had the privilege of filming at a Kent wedding!
Dynamic Sounds Disco then cranked up the music as the guests started to dance the night away, only taking a break to grab a drink or dive into the Photo Booth provided by T C Photobooths for a funny snapshot or two.
I had such a great time filming this unique Kentish wedding for Jenna & Aden and it was an absolute privilege to be asked to do so. With so many different parts to the day it was hard to squeeze it into a few short minutes for their highlights film! All that’s left to say is a huge congratulations to the new Mr & Mrs Mackenzie!
