Behind The Camera

With Luke Batchelor

Named by LoveStories TV as ‘One Of The Top Wedding Videographers in the UK’, multi-award winning Luke Batchelor Productions was founded in 2018.

What I love most about being a wedding filmmaker is the thought that many years & generations after your special day, my films will still be being enjoyed by you & your families. The emotion, the atmosphere, the stories & dynamics- all of these are what I truly enjoy capturing & is what makes wedding filmmaking such an amazing & unique art form.

My vision & belief for what a wedding film can & should be is what sets my films apart from the norm. A large part of my success as a filmmaker has come from building relationships with my couples, whereby they feel like I am more of a friend than a filmmaker. I know that many people have reservations about being filmed, which is why my approach focusses less on the cameras & more on the moment- because its the moments that you’ll cherish & adore for a lifetime. Capturing that authenticity is the key to unlocking a wedding film you’ll want to watch over & over again.

My style is bold yet elegant, slightly over the top yet authentic & I truly believe in making each film as bespoke to that individual couple as possible. I’m not one for a popularity contest- I don’t care for followers, likes or fame. For me, the satisfaction is in creating a truly one of a kind film for that couple & that they absolutely adore it.

I’ve been on so many wild adventures, met some incredible people, told some powerful stories & revelled in every moment of it. I was fortunate enough to be voted as one of the top wedding videographers in the UK by LoveStories TV, I have had my work published multiple times & I have won a variety of awards for my work as a wedding filmmaker. I truly do enjoy every moment of what I do & I am so grateful that I am trusted by so many of my couples to tell their story.

I am also fortunate enough to have been able to enrol my skills as a filmmaker into another craft I absolutely adore- wedding photography. I love using the same relaxed approach I have with my filmmaking in my photography, allowing me to fit seamlessly into my couples wedding day & capture amazing, show-stopper images for them.

I am truly passionate about capturing weddings & telling the stories of those there on the day, whether that’s through film or by photography. I feel so very fortunate that my professional career as a filmmaker & photographer has allowed me to be a part of so many wonderful moments that I have been able to give back to my couples to keep forever. It is a very special thing indeed.

Nowadays you’ll pretty much always find me behind a camera, whether that’s filming, photographing or as a DoP (Director of Photography). My experience of both fields has allowed me to combine them, taking on large & epic projects where I coordinate & run teams of videographers & photographers, working in unison & harmony to produce some truly mesmerising & amazing media. In my career before I had even picked up a camera I worked in high pressure teams & environments- it’s so great to be in a position now where I can combine all of my experiences & expertise into one place, being creative & taking on the world one project at a time.

Experiences & Journeys

A Time Before Cameras

Before I discovered my passion for cameras, filmmaking & photography, I was on a very different kind of adventure.

Before I became a wedding filmmaker I was a professional soldier in the British Army for over 14 years, joining straight from school at the age of 17. My career took me all around the world & included two operational tours of Afghanistan, as well as places such as Jordan, Cyprus, Germany, France- again, often times more than once.

I was a member of the Royal Engineers & my career was split into two main parts- the first half of my career was spent as a Close Support Combat Engineer, whilst the second half of my career I found himself specialising in weapons instructing & teaching, specifically with heavy weapons on Armoured Fighting Vehicles.

I gained a vast amount of life experiences from every corner of the globe, confidence from years of instruction & teaching to students of all abilities & levels, whilst learning to work in extremely high pressure environments both as an individual & as a team. As a Regimental Instructor I was often involved in organising, planning & delivering training for large numbers of personnel to operational readiness- a role which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Unfortunately, it was also this role that I enjoyed so much that would eventually cost me my career. I broke my lower spine during a training accident whilst teaching.

Following the accident, I had 4 major spinal operations over the course of two years to repair the damage sustained to my lower back, culminating in my lower spine being fused together with titanium blocks. With continuing my career as a professional soldier not possible, I was medically discharged from the British Army & immediately set my sights on my next adventure- creating one of a kind wedding films.

The life experiences I had before I became a filmmaker & photographer set the foundations for what I do now. Hard work, a can-do & never give up attitude, as well as a love of telling a good story & having your audience hanging on your every word. I know the value in working as a team & moving in the same direction for a common goal, as well as reading people & situations, pre-empting big moments & being a shoulder to lean on when needed.

I use these experiences every day now & I treat every wedding or project as if its my last, fully throwing myself into the challenge & getting everything out of it that I can- because you never know if that one little thing you captured, that one fleeting moment in time, could be something treasured by someone for a lifetime.
