Top Wedding Videography FAQs (With Expert Answers)
1. What Is Wedding Videography, and How Is It Different from Photography?
Wedding videography captures the motion and sound of your day—things a still photograph simply can’t convey. From your vows and speeches to the spontaneous laughter between friends, video adds a layer of depth and emotion that brings your memories to life.
While photography preserves stunning moments in time, wedding films tell a story—your story—through movement, sound, and narrative. Both are valuable, but each offers a different perspective on your celebration. For example, wedding photographs can stand alone as a singular piece of documentation, whereas wedding films have to be carefully thought out and curated to esnure the story flows and that it delivers the desired effect to the viewer.
2. Why Should We Hire a Wedding Videographer?
Photos are beautiful, but video captures the full experience. Imagine hearing your partner’s voice as they read their wedding morning letter, watching your first dance unfold, or reliving the emotion of your vows.
A professional wedding videographer ensures that these once-in-a-lifetime moments are beautifully documented and preserved forever.
3. What Styles of Wedding Videography Are Available?
When it comes to wedding videography, style matters. Here are the most common approaches:
Cinematic: Artistic, film-like storytelling with a focus on dramatic angles and emotional moments. This will often include some form of editorial styling and an intentionality to what’s captured.
Documentary: A natural, unscripted capture of your day as it unfolds. Minimal to no input from the videographer- put simply, what happens is what will be recorded.
Story-Driven: Weaving personal elements—like letter readings or interviews—into the film’s narrative. Again, this is a purposeful and intentional style of filmmaking.
At Luke Batchelor Productions, I specialise in cinematic, story-driven wedding films that reflect your unique love story. This means my films are curated to deliver the biggest emotional impact, each shot is carefully edited and I use advanced editing techniques to create a visually striking final product.
As an example, my cinematic, editorial-style videography would not suit someone who is looking for a documentary-style wedding film.
4. How Much Does Wedding Videography Cost?
Wedding videography pricing varies based on experience, package details, and location. For a high-quality, cinematic wedding film, you can expect investment to begin at £3,000-5,000 and above. If you would like to learn more about wedding videography budgets and what you can expect, feel free to check out my full guide here.
Factors that impact pricing would be the number of hours of coverage, the number of videographers filming, editing time and film length, additional features such as drones and the eperience level of the videographer. Again, as an example, I include drone shots within all of my investment options whereas I know some videographers will charge extra for this, so there is a lot of variation between companies and videographers.
Did You Know?
Certain styles of videography and photography clash with each other? A photographer who uses lots of off- camera flash throughout the day will have a huge impact on a natural light videographer for example, so researching the style you like fully and asking relevant questions will help you avoid any mishaps.
5. What Should We Ask Before Booking a Videographer?
Here are essential questions to ask during your search:
What’s your filming style?
Can we see examples of full wedding films?
How do you work with our photographer?
What’s included in your packages?
Do you offer destination wedding coverage?
For a full and comprehensive guide on all the questions you should be asking your videographer and photographer, keep reading and at the end of this article you’ll be able to download it for free!
6. How Do You Work Alongside Our Photographer?
I collaborate closely with photographers to ensure we both capture the best moments without getting in each other’s way. A smooth, professional partnership means your day flows naturally, with no awkward interruptions or missed moments- working cohesively together means we all take away more form the experience and time together. Understandably this can be something that sometimes becomes a concern for couples, so I offer videography and photography combination options where I bring a photographer with me and I handle everything for me. Besides the obvious advantages of knowing who I am working with and the both os us being an experienced team together, this means that you as a couple only have to deal with one point of contact and co-ordination throughout your wedding experience.
If you would like to learn more about my videography and photography options you can do so here.
7. Will Our Wedding Film Be Unique to Us?
Absolutely- if you find the right videographer. Every couple’s love story is one-of-a-kind, and your wedding film should reflect that. I craft bespoke wedding films—tailoring the narrative to your personalities, relationships, and the moments that matter most. My belief is to make your wedding film as unique to you as possible, and as such no two of my films are the same. Some videographers operate from a 'cookie-cutter' model- filming the same shots on every wedding day, placing them in the same parts of the film, whether it fits well or not.
By making my wedding films bespoke, they become timeless and authentic, because they are all about the most important thing- you and your story. There’s not a right or a wrong way- all these points are subjective and you need to find someone who works for you and your vision.
8. How Long Does It Take to Receive Our Wedding Film?
Great storytelling takes time. For my clients, the typical turnaround for a fully edited cinematic wedding film is approximately 12 weeks- although if I feel one of my films needs more work to make it the best it can be I will extend that timeline. This ensures that every frame is carefully edited, color-graded, and crafted to perfection. In a world of instant gratification and fast-paced media it can be easy to rush everything to showcase it, however I want my couples to enjoy their wedding film for the rest of their lives (and potentially the generations that come after them), so I take care to give each wedding the time and dedication it deserves.
Every videographer will have a different process and delivery time. From my observations over the years, I personally feel that a lot of issues arise when expectations haven’t been set by the professional or by the client. Asking this simple question will put your mind at ease.
9. Can We Request Specific Shots or Moments?
Absolutely. While I capture the organic flow of your day, I welcome your input—whether it’s a particular tradition, family moment, or special location. Your wedding film should reflect what’s most meaningful to you. Some videographers may not work to a specific ‘shot list’ (I myself find that it really does limit how creative you can be on the day), but those personal moments are what is going to make your wedding film unique.
10. What’s Included in Your Wedding Videography Investment options?
At Luke Batchelor Productions, I offer bespoke packages to suit your unique wedding vision. You’ll find most videographers and photographers offer something similar- a streamlined set of options that make it simple for you to see what you will be receiving as your final product. This will vary greatly, however here’s what you can typically expect:
Full-day coverage—from bridal prep to the evening celebrations.
A cinematic feature film showcasing the best moments.
Full ceremony and speech films so you can relive every word.
Optional extras: aerial drone footage, multi-day coverage, and more.
